<image:title>Teaching - “I celebrate teaching that enables transgressions—a movement against and beyond boundaries.” — bell hooks</image:title>
<image:caption>student evaluation (beloit College, Spring 2019): “Professor Malaklou walks into a room and fills it right up, and she loves the people in it, sitting at the table, and she loves them with such force that burning the table seems like a good idea. And in that process of analyzing the world in which we live and the violences committed against us every day, if you’re giving it the thought it requires, you vomit [up] your soul. You cough it up alive and beating, and recognize your own trauma in front of other people, and each time she meets with you [she does so with] unadulterated acceptance and warmth. ...The electricity of realizing the comfortable lies we tell ourselves are actually violent, of having [a] vocabulary for injustices I’ve known existed, of confronting how I’ve been hurt and caused the hurt of others—it’s [all] excruciating and exhausting and wonderful, and I will never run out of gratitude for that.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Exhibitions - As the 2018 Parker Faculty Curator of the Wright Museum of Art, Malaklou worked with students in her Fall 2017 and Fall 2018 “Black Lives (Don’t) Matter” class to expand Beloit’s collection to include contemporary pieces by black artist-activists. Notably, the Wright Museum had just one piece in its collection by a black artist (procured in 2015) before she undertook this project. Alison Saar delivered the keynote address for the opening and local artists Della Wells, Evelyn Patricia Terry, Rosy Petri, and Jesse Howard also attended.</image:title>
